Cold to HOT...
We started the second week of March with the remits of a significant cold front that pushed though the region, leaving us water water temperatures in the high 50's. The week prior we had water temperatures in the mid to high 70's, so we have a 20 degree temperature drop which slowed down the Snook, Redfish, and Trout bite. We ended up heading for some deeper water to target Sheepshead and Snapper which were biting pretty good and most trips ended up with some table fare to take home. We were catching Sheepshead using shrimp on the bottom in the middle of Tampa Bay, around Egmont Key, and the north end of Anna Maria Island. This past week water temperatures were on the rise and so was the inshore bite. Bait has started showing up in massive numbers and can be found on most grass flats and around structure in deeper waters. The Snook bite has steadily increased over this past week (Picture) and this next week the bite should be ON!. There are a massive amount of Snook in the bay waiting for the tides and the water temperature to ignite the bite (Picture). The Trout bite has really picked up and all the fishing are well over keeper size (15"). The Redfish bite has been sporadic with some days being very well and others not so much. We did catch some nice Redfish this past week (Picture). This upcoming week we will see better tides and the new moon starts which should turn the Redfish on.
