Every year thousands of people book fishing charters in and around the Miami area. Some of these people have booked trips here before while many other have not. In order to ensure a great day on the water there are a few things to consider. Below are some Do's and Don'ts.
Do
- Find a captain that is licensed and insured.
- Check out the captain's website (if available). Checking out the website can answer a lot of questions and provide more insight.
- Contact the captain well ahead of the date you plan to fish on.
- Ask the captain what species are available during this season.
- Ask about the boat, accommodations, etc.
- If you want to keep fish, ask what the policy is. (Many boats keep most of the catch.)
- Always ask if there are any additional fees or costs.
- Send your deposit as soon as possible.
- Ask about cancellation policies
Don't
- Ask the captain how many fish you will catch. Any honest captain will tell you that catches vary greatly from day to day.
- Show up with a GPS.
- Bring hard liquor or illegal drugs.
- Show up with more people than agreed unless you clear it first. (all boats are licensed and insured for a specific number of passengers.)
- Tell the captain and crew how to fish.
These are just a few things to keep in mind when booking a trip. Everyone has a different set of needs and expectations. Doing your homework will ensure that you have a memorable day on the water.
