The area of Barkley Sound from Swale Rock to Meares Bluff and Austin continues to have some very good fishing. We have been hitting most of the chinook which are ranging 14 to 20 pounds on anchovy. Rhys Davis Teaser Heads in chrome or tiger prawn seem to be working very well behind a green hot spot flasher. There seems to be lots of bait in the area which is one reason why limits of these feisty chinook are not difficult to pick up. The largest chinook over the last couple of days was 23 pounds picked up in 90 feet of water between Meares and Gilbraltor. This fish hit a silver coyote spoon behind 5 feet of leader and a green hotspot flasher.
The season is predicted to be excellent as plenty of chinook and coho are forecast to make their way down the west coast of Vancouver Island. In early August the first of the Robertson Creek chinook and coho will make their way into the sound and will continue into late September. The 2007 season will be wonderful with some wonderful days on the pristine and protected waters of beautiful Barkley Sound B.C.
