Another good fishing report comes from Hackberry's Captain Buddy Oaks who says" We continue to catch limits of redfish on the banks and the bigger trout are also holding early in the morning in the shallow water." He suggest the southeast portion of Lake Calcasieu (Lambert's and Grand Bayou areas) and reports that even with the wind blowing hard out of the southeast, fishing has been good. Oaks also, states that there are lots of diving seagull action for trout in these areas. A challenge for anglers is to prevent boat from being blown over the top of the fish and spooking the school.
To catch good numbers from schools, anglers must maintain proper boat control and those anglers who consistently catch fish have learned the art of boat positioning. This involves keeping the boat close enough for passengers to work the school but keeping enough distance to keep from scattering the school. Sounds simple but it isn't. Captain Oaks adds that some bigger trout are being caught and released on the south end of the lake on live shrimp, H & H cacahoe minnows and Hackberry Hustlers in black/chartreuse.
