[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] As always, unless you live in the deluged Mid-west, you hear residents of rainy conditions say, Man, we needed the rain. OK Ma nature you gave us the rain, no please go away. It has rained for the last four days and my new summer tan is fading away to mid-school year pastiness. Why, why oh god of sun have you forsaken me? All kidding aside, the rain is good for the bays and the cool temperatures that have accompanied it are a mid-summer Valley relief.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Time to roll out the red carpet and bow to the return of the Silver King. While I was away playing in the Louisiana backwaters, dad was busy paying homage to the large scaled silver one. The king has returned with his entourage and Captain Pete and dad were there to greet them by jumping ten fish and landing three. Captain Pete landed his first tarpon that estimated to go around 85-pounds.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] The old answer would have been Tool Time and just like old Tool Man Taylor Ma Nature has decided to kick things up a notch with the old wind tunnel. I was fishing with new friends the Little Tuna and Ted Lund and the old lady buffered us with the best of the Binford 5000. UUHHHUHHHUHHHHH. And, although I feel like my ears are still ringing and I am leaning slightly forward on the balls of my feet from the constant buffering from behind, the fish are on.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Thank goodness, server rooms are airtight. If not, the winds this week would have created a spreading forest fire larger than the mind can imagine. We are sorry we have been offline since Monday. I know I have missed a number of important emails and I am sure dad has too. If you have emailed and we did not answer, simple answer is we had no access.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Fishing 12 out of the last 15 days with clients': Catch and releasing before 10:00 AM, how could it get any better? Just as my previous reports asked: Are the numbers of 17 to 20 trout we are catching due to the regulation change last Sept. or a seasonal anomaly?
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Sorry for the late report, but fishing everyday this old FART just doesn't feel like sitting on keyboard at the end of the day. The attached photo has been lost for a long time but I just recently found it and thought it was a shame not to share it with other fishermen.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] We are consistently catching good numbers of 16 to 22 trout daily: is this a result of our 5 fish bag limit started last Year?
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Mix a few friends, some great fellowship, and awesome fishing and what do you get? Quite a few oversized reds and one awesome twenty-eight inch trout. We recently hosted the Friendswood Fishers of Men Chapter from Houston, one of our tamer groups in the lodge but little devils on the water.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] The old spinster, Ma Nature, decided to turn a cool, temperamental shoulder our way Saturday morning. Luckily, her cool breezy attitude gave way to a warm and sunny countenance that awarded us a beautiful, fish filled afternoonshe even gave us the opportunity to do some of the best sight fishing of the early season.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] We hosted a bachelor party for 1ST. LT. Stephen just returned from serving our Country in Iraq. Thanks Lt. He and all his buddies, who by the way were Aggie's, let it be known despite them being Aggie's they CAN FISH. Now to say his deployment took away from his fish catching ability would be lying. Ten minutes into our first wade of the day he set the bar for his buddies, Father and Father-in-law by catching a 29 inch and 7 # Big Girl.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] We continue to catch 25 inch plus trout, but with Spring Break on us look for the traffic to move the larger trout from the shorelines and out a little deeper. Returning last Wed. I was able to get in 4 days on the water before the WIND FANS started!!!!!
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] After a few photos and moving another 20 feet Capt. Ted bows up on a 29 weighing in at 7 #, at this point I was still feeling petty good
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] But, we were not after reds but BIG TROUT! Well you can guess, Capt. Paul pops a 26 trout and the trash talk starts.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Prior to last Wed. we have been on the water rain, actual sleet and cold chasing the BIG GIRLS. When it's on it's ON!!! Stats for last week before I left to go hunting:
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Conditions were nearly as perfect as a Big Trout enthusiast could want! Light winds, overcast, prefrontal and a full moon.
[Lower Luguna Madre,TX] Cool weather and BIG Trout! Looks like we will get a REAL BLAST Thursday and this should be the front that puts them in the winter time patterns.
