Hey everyone just came across this site and love it!!! I am Capt. Charlie Thomason and I hope that I can give you some great information for your next trip!!!
Well, with the specks pretty much jumping in the boat and the reds eating everything we throw at them this report is plain simple. Every trip that Capt. Shane and I have taken out for the past three weeks have been limits of trout (25per person) and reds (5per person). We have been fishing around the areas of Four Horse Lake and Battle Ground Bay. These areas have been producing fish since Aug of this year and are very easily accessable from Delacroix, Hopedale or Point a la Hache. We have been working Saltwater Assassins in the Truse Goose or Silver Mullet colors on 3/8oz jigheads on the bottom in deep bayous. Most anglers have been fishing under corks but the bigger fish have been on the bottom. Slow hops on the bottom have been the ticket.
Now for the reds it has been a different story. If you do not know I am one of the top professionals on the Redfish Cup and have fished all over the Gulf Coast and Eastern Coast of Florida. Capt. Shane my guide is also my partner for the tournaments. Limits of reds are always easy for us with our knowledge of the area and techniques for fishing reds in shallow water. Gold spoons and soft plastics are our choice of baits for our reds because they are easy to cast and they work. We sight fish almost all of redfish and if you are a flyfishing angler our area is your dream!!! We have a 19ft Triton Flats boat that we pole spinning and fly anglers around the marsh for tailing reds.
Our redfishing has been AWESOME!!! We are catching limits of reds everyday and catching and releasing hundreds more each week. We have been fishing the small ponds with numerous outlets. This has been the key because the reds are sitting in the mouths of these creeks waiting for anything that comes by. With the colder weather brings clearer water and hungry reds.
