Wednesday Pablo, Gabriel, Nick, and Javier came down to Shell Beach for a little fishing fun and to get away from their busy work load of late. The morning started off very cold and with a stop by Campo's for some live shrimp. I knew it would be a tough morning with the water temps so low and the shrimp showed it. They were alive, but very little movement out of them. We started off in Bayou Robin fishing on the bottom. It took a while for us to get the first fish in the boat and the action was slow from there. We had 9 Trout in the box before taking off looking for some better action. We tried a few deep areas near Hopedale Lagoon with nothing to show for. Next we headed over to the Biloxi Marsh side where we made a few stops and drifted La Loutre fishing both under a cork and on the bottom. The water temps were still under 50 and the Trout would just not cooperate. We worked our way to Muscle Bay where I hoped that the sun had finally warmed the water enough to get those fish moving. About 1:00pm the water temp got a hair over 50 and the Trout turned on. It was as fast as you could cast action with live shrimp under a cork. Nice Trout with some throw backs mixed in. I guess the gnats decided it was time to eat also because they came out in force. On with the gnat hats and on with the catching. Once the tide stopped the action did too. With 80 Trout, 2 Reds, and 1 Sheepshead on ice and the gnats getting worse it was time to head to the house. The guys hung in there till things warmed up and had a lot of fun along with a nice pile of fillets to take home. For your next fishing adventure call United Charters 504-439-1680.
