While Deep Dropping is not a new form of fishing it is some what new to most people. We have had good sucess with the Yellowedge Grouper, Longtail Bass, Golden Tilefish, and Barrelfish. Most of the fish are found in water depths from 600-1200 feet. We use multiple hooks on the brand new Diawa Tanacom Bull 1000 Reels on stand up 30-80 pound rod with Braid Tuna harness to help with the strain. you need fairly calm weather and little tide to help you get to the bottom in the right spot. To help keep down on tangles we just fish 4 rods at a time. Most of your smaller boats can accommodate that due to space requirments but you can overcome that by fishing just 2 rods and as one is coming up you can drop down another.
We fished yesterday in 700 feet most all day and had a ball. this is something that can easily be done on a overnight trip or a extended day trip but you want tomake sure you leave yourself plenty of time when it takes 5 minutes just reel up your bounty!
