After a cancellation on Tuesday due to the incliment weather, we hit the water early this AM hoping for better conditions. Well it was better, but far from ideal. First stop in an interior pass yielded trout after trout on artificial cocahoes and live shrimp carolina rigged. Only problem was most of the trout were undersized. My guests waded through the small ones and every third trout would make the box. The keepers were 12-16". The wind really picked up out of the West and changed the way the current line layed which shut us down. Made a short move to a point adjacent to a deep river and put the wind into our backs. We were working the current line coming around the point and the trout were hungry. We picked up nice trout 18-20" on live shrimp under corks and on artificial slow rolled off the bottom. The box was looking much better when a sqall line approached from the South. The wind shifted out of the South West and blew out our current line again. The fish shut down and we were off toward the east and the big water. Made a stop at an island and caught a trout on the first cast. Things were looking up! Then the cajun anchor released from the mud due to the building seas. I was trying to reposition the boat when it started drizzling and I turned toward the South and just new that we were fixing to get it good. Rain jackets on, backs to the rain, the boat got a good 10 minute washing. It was refreshing at first, but soon after the pounding starts to drain your body of energy. The weather passed and blue skies popped out, but the water around the island was trashed due to the crashing seas. Made a run to an interior deep bayou and got on another good trout bite. These fish wanted live shrimp 2' under corks. We kept on these fish until the weather started to look ominous again to the North. The weather moved just far enough East to give us a window to get home dry. My guests decided to give it a shot and call it a day. We had to take a circuitous route home to avoid the weather, but made it in dry with a good box of fish. No limits for the boat today. The fish were there, we just could not get a break. That is fishing! The weather should improve for the rest of the week and into the weekend. The fish are ready so get out and catch some!
