Delacroix Report:
What a differance a day makes! Yesterday my guests were treated to light seas and hungry mule trout. Today the seas were the same, but the hungry trout were 11 3/4". We hit the last island on the way outside Sunday and instantly started slamming big trout all on plastics. The fish were 18-22" and wanted any color artificial cocahoes on 1/4 ounce jigheads. The fish were staging just downcurrent of the point on the island and were probably working back and forth on the submerged reef. We left them biting to get back to the dock and out of the heat. Today, we were headed to the same spot and found 2 boats there already. Neither of the boats were set up right for the spot, but it prevented us from getting to it. Plan B, we hit another submerged reef, several wellheads in the sound and scratched on live shrimp under corks, carolina rigged and artificial presentations. The live shrimp that I got this AM were about 2" long which is not good. Plan C, we hit some windward coves with moving water and started to work on small trout. These fish were aggressive, but we had to throw back 4 for every 1 we put in the box. These fish wanted artificial and live shrimp carolina rigged. The tide turned and with a slight repositioning of the boat, we started picking up trout and redfish on live shrimp 2' under corks and artificials. A good day, but not the action that I was anticipating! Good luck out there this week.
