Slick calm out in Black Bay this AM. We got a late start and did not need running lights on the way out. This is often the kiss of death to filling the ice chest this time of the year, but that was not the case today. The first well head yielded nice trout 15-18". These fish wanted live shrimp carolina rigged and artificial cocahoes on 1/4 ounce jigheads. We caught the tail end of the rising tide and the action died during the turnaround. We headed further out to catch the falling tide and found the big sow trout beside a rig. These fish were all 2-4 lbers and wanted live croakers freelined, live shrimp freelined and artificial cocahoes. The croakers were on fire catching fish on each and every one out of the live well. My guest tied a boat record in catching three sows on one croaker. Congrats James! His reward was gallon bags of trout filets to bring back to Indiana! Saw quite a bit of bird action on the way back toward the marsh. These birds were on shrimp so I am sure that there were trout under them. Hit a couple of redfish holes on the edge of the outer bays and picked up a few reds and sheepheads. The redfish were 19-22". One spot we hit had such low water that I could not get the boat close enough to the bank to cast into the cut. We were tortured to watch as a dozen big reds were finning and tailing in 8" of water and we could not get our baits to them. Frustrating, but exciting to watch! Better tidal range forecast for the weekend. The water was clean in Black Bay, but stained in Breton Sound. The fishing action has been good in Black Bay and Breton Sound and the summer patterns seem to be firmly in place. It is the time to get out and catch some fish! Good luck out there!
