Sunday was a really awesome day, we got going at around 05h00 and there was a light SW blowing which later changed to a light NE which got blowing hard later that afternoon. The water surface temperature was averaging around 23.5 deg. C and the water was still crystal clear. We had a Humpback Whale surface just a few meters from the boat, and we also saw some more breaching in the distance.
I saw the first blue bottles for the summer and there is a huge amount of Garfish swimming around, and you can see them in the crystal clear water and watch them jumping past your lures.
We had just set a spread and got the boat going at speed when the first line went and we landed a small Kawakawa and this set the tempo for the day and as we went on we got several small Kawakawa and a few reasonable size ones.
We had 4 reels go simultaneously and managed to land 3 HUGE Kawakawa, and loose one. I was looking hard for the Yellowfin Tuna and could not find them, but we did get a triple hook up and landed 3 good size Sarda Sarda.
Still trolling with the light 20lb tackle we eventually got the fish of the day which was a lovely Bull Dorado (Mahi Mahi) which took our lure as we heading back. I only ran 2 feathers and was pulling them whilst on the plane at around 20 knots when one of the reels let out an ultra high pitch scream, and I thought the bearings would seize as the line peeled of so fast we nearly got spooled and about 350m away we saw a Dorado jumping in the opposite direction. He gave us a long hard fight but eventually we subdued him making him our 3rd Dorado for this season.
