Nikao Fishing Adventures went out with a client to Durban Harbour in the late afternoon.
The weather forecast got it completely wrong and told us it would be hot, clear skies and no wind, yet we found ourselves fishing in a heavy wind, in completely overcast conditions with occasional rain and some lightning in the distance.
The trip started out with a clinic on setting up the rigs and knot tying, and when the tide started to turn we got onto some serious fishing. We managed to find some Springer just after high tide that were feeding in about water about 10m deep and we tried drop shot, but this seemed to fast for them, we then through weightless flukes at them but they were just mouthing them and playing with them, we then through jerk baits but they were biting short, a slowly retrieved deep running crank did the trick and got us 3 Springer of 2.5Kg, 3Kg and a 5.5Kg, we also managed to get a 7.7Kg Springer on a live Glassy drifted out behind the boat. The feeding activity was short lived and they went off the bite.
Later on as the tide was falling we got some good king fish chases off the banks from fast drop shot but they were mostly turning on us right at the boat, I did manage to get 1 of around 1Kg.
By then the lightning was to close and so we decided to end the outing for safety reasons. Sorry no pics due to the rain.
