We started out collecting live bait and got a lot of mackerel and red eye sardines, we got right into a pocket of the sardines and were just hauling them up by the dozen; the boy was having great fun and took to it like a duck to water.
Then we did a trawl along back line with some light tackle and lures and then along the 30m contour line, but nothing, I often get good game fish in these waters but they were still not around.
We then went out to the reefs and fished bottom with bass tackle, and this proved to be the answer as we immediately started out with a double hook up of 2 very large bridle trigger fish, we caught Natal stumpy, slinger, many more triggers and a few other species aswell as a very nice sized Englishman. The highlight was a 1.74Kg threadfin rubberlips (a first for my boat) which gave a superb fight and took a lot of line, and the boy had had a really great day.
I had also put a live baited mackerel out on the drift on a trap stick and something took this and made good run, but it came back towards the boat and the boy could not reel up the line fast enough and we lost it. I think it was a hammer head shark.
The fishing has been tough, and I think overall we had a super day.
