We launched at 05h00 when it was still dark and the swells were just over 2m with a light breeze, as the morning progressed it rained lightly for a while and then the sun came out the wind died completely and the water glassed off. Water temperature was around 22 deg C.
We first targeted some live bait, after we had about 20 or so mackerel in the live well, we trawled some lures on light tackle and hooked up a few Little Eastern Tuna all around 1Kg, and then we hooked into a nice little Yellow Fin Kingfish aka Black Tip King Fish of around 1.8Kg on light tackle and he gave us a good fight.
Later we out deeper and trawled with some heavier tackle and larger lures, but there was no game fish around.
We then went out to some reefs and fished on the reef with light tackle and drop shot, whilst we put a live bait out on a drift, but this delivered us nothing.
We got some Rockod, lots of Trigger Fish, quite a few species of other smaller bottom fish, but nothing was that large. We then hooked up a lovely Angel Fish of around 1.4Kg (Striatus) which put a lovely fight on the light tackle.
We had also put out a large Chokka (Squid) bait on reasonably light tackle and this eventually got us a Hammer Head Shark of around 20Kg which gave my clients a real fight and halfway through the one guy got tired and passed the rod over to his friend who finished the fight and landed the fish after about 30min.
We were hoping that as Spring is approaching that there may be a few Game Fish around, but even though fishing was tough we had a super day, and the light tackle gave us good entertainment.
All the fish were released.
