The last couple of days the Barkley Sound Area located on beautiful and scenic Vancouver Island has had some great salmon fishing. We predominately have fished an area known as Swale Rock. We fish by trolling and have been fishing at about 130 feet using anchovy in a clear or chartreuse Rhys Davis Teaser Head with about five feet of leader. We have also been using various green, white and bluey colored hootchies and some coyote 4 inch spoons. The salmon are anywhere from 10 to 17 pounds and are all feeder Chinook. There is plenty of bait in the area also. Finding the bait is often very important at this time of year. We are expecting the first of the migratory Coho to come into the area and also larger Chinook. The largest to date in terms of Chinook is 25 pounds. Barkley Sound fishing in the latter half of May through September is forecast to be one of the best years since 1982. There not only will be Coho and Chinook but also the Pink run is forecast to be from 14 to 17 million and the Sockeye anywhere fron 10 to 15 million. There will be some excellent fishing this summer no doubt. Call Doug at 1 877 314 6800 to book your trip
