Live bait or lures, the quality and quantity of fish has been the best I've seen in a long time. The incoming tides have been our best best-it's easy to time the bite with a prior look at a tidal chart. Check before you go. Prepare for extreme tides later on this winter and know your navigational routes as you don't want to get stuck on a mudflat or an oyster bar.
Fishing south Florida inshore waters will see a minor transition as temperatures drop. A warm winter may bring early tarpon to the backcountry. My customers and friends have had a great season so far experiencing some really nice catches. And in the Everglades National Park and Biscayne Bayareas as well. Flamingo area has also seen a good bite of redfish and seatrout. These fish are being sight fished and also being caught on many of the popular scent baits. The fly fisherman have been targeting the tarpon in places like Whitewater Bay and deep creeks. Deceiver flies and yellow/white combinations work very well in this area. I am also testing out some new tarpon toad flies in chartreuse and olive-color patterns. This is also a fantastic place to fish topwater and twitch baits. The backbays are great on windy days as well.
