Nikao Fishing Adventures took 4 clients from Finland deep sea fishing off Durban.
We launched at 06h00, the sea was nice and flat, but I knew some wind was coming, the wind was a North Westerly, and as the day progressed it picked up more and more and this is an un usual wind for Durban which always makes me nervous and so I was standing up mostly looking around like a Meerkat to see if there was any bad weather coming.
We launched at around 06h00 and as we goy out the harbour mouth I rigged up some small feathers and X-Raps on light tackle and did a slow trawl with these 6 lines along the 10m contour where all the birds and bait fish were and then came back along the 20-30m line as we turned we started hooking up a lot of Torpedo Scad, and eventually I was not even able to get all the lines in the water because as we let one out we were on. We must have hooked up around 40 like this with the largest being around 2Kg. After that we got nothing more
We then went out to the reefs and fished bottom with light tackle, and got a lot of nice fish, we also hooked up several nice sized Englishman and some nice sized Copper Bream, and I got a lovely Bridle Trigger Fish which gave a super fight on the bass tackle.
I had also put a live baited mackerel but this produced nothing.
