Game Fishing - Past Season Report - 2018/2019.
Offshore Fishing Report – Summer 2018/2019
With winter in full swing now, I thought it was time to reflect on the past summer season.
The season started early with our biggest Dorado of 20kg opening the account on the 1st of October, even more special was that this fish was landed by a young boy. From the beginning of the season at the end of 2018 the fish were there even though the water was cold and mostly green right through to mid December, we also encountered an unusual occurrence where all the early season fish came out of the cold green water and the warmer blue water that we found was void of life.
Dorado fishing was spectacular for the season and one of the best seasons we have had in the past few years with many Dorado caught and some days with double digits from all our boats, Wahoo on the other hand made a poor showing this season with very few caught. Tuna fishing was average however we got a lot of bigger ones than normal with an average weight of 17kg and fish up to 30kg which is really good for Durban. No Blue or Striped Marlin were caught but we did manage 6 Black Marlin 3 of them really stand out, 1 was over 600lbs, 1 was hooked up on one of the new Rapala Xtreme’s and a 400lb on light tackle. All our Marlin were successfully released with no casualties. The sailfish this season was a real frustration, even though we got several strikes we never landed one. The Dorado came early but the also left early with very little caught after March, usually we get them through to April, waters also started cooling down earlier which bodes well for a good sardine run in 2019 and as always the game season is better in years that the sardines come. We had great fun this past season along with many of our guests.
For the next few months all our big tackle is in for maintenance and we are preparing for the new season whilst winter fishing takes place, from 1st October our big game trips will commence for the 2019/2020 season. I can’t wait.
To my team, well done guys and to our guests thank you for your support.
