It's been a while since my last report, but between family vacations and all the prepareation for the Miami Billfish Tournament it has been tough to say the least. Unfortunately our team did not fair as well as we would have liked. We managed to catch a lot of nice fish during the three day event but we came up short. On our last day of fishing we boated a nice dolphin just shy of the third place tropy. The best thing about competing in these events is that you always learn new things that can be applied to all future trips.
Many of the boats competing in this event enjoyed double digit sailfish releases. Kingfish were also quite abundant especially the smaller school kings in the 8-10# range. Many nice gaffer size dolphin were also caught up and down the edge of the gulfstream.
The remainder of April and May should continue to see some excellent catches. Blackfin tuna are starting to show up along with some of the larges kingfish and dolphin of the year. If you're looking to tangle with some of these fish give me a call so that we can set up your trip.
Tight Lines,
Capt. Orlando Muniz
