Great Day offshore on McFire.
Offshore Fishing Report – Durban 06-02-2019
What an awesome day today, we had a team building trip for the Blue Water Charters team along with a few friends to give McFire her maiden fishing voyage off Durban. For me it was just such a pleasure not to sit at the wheel and have a day off from skipper duty whilst Adam spent most of the day at the helm and he really is a competent skipper (thanks Adam). The boat is really spacious and even with 6 of us up on the bridge we were not cramped and with 14 metres of boat one could disappear to other parts of the boat for some solitude. Conditions today were fantastic with flat seas, warm blue water and no wind. We saw 2 Sharks during the trip, a Marlin swim by and 2 Loggerhead Turtles swimming together. Early morning we had a Dorado double up and it was Kurt and I fighting these fish, usually we are helping others catch fish so it was just so fabulous to be able to do this and be in a different role for a change. Next up was a smaller Yellowfin Tuna and this was on Erik’s turn and after a while we had a really big hit from a good size Yellowfin Tuna and Deon was on the rod to bring this beauty on board and claim the best catch for the day (Well done Deon). Things got a bit quiet for a while and we had a braai with some nice boerewors rolls (Thanks Imran). With full bellies and relaxing suddenly a reel went of and Heyne had the rod in hand putting a stunning Bull Dorado on the deck after some aerial antics (Well done Heyne). We then had another Dorado on and it was also a Bull and this one really jumped around spending more time in the air than in the water, sadly he came loose and we lost him. So the day ended with 3 Dorado, 2 Yellowfin on the tally and a bunch of great guys to enjoy the day with. Thanks guys for such a great day, was an absolute pleasure, it was really relaxing and refreshing. I think we should do this more often.
