Hot action in Hopedale Lagoon. Today I had 5 anglers from the American Glass Service Group on board. They were part of a group of 20 that came down last night for a feast at the King's lodge and day of fishing. After a stop at Campo's for bait we headed over to the Hopedale Lagoon area. The morning started off very nice with a clear sky and light winds, but there was a change a coming. We set up in a spot with about 12' of water and fishing with live shrimp on a Carolina rig The Trout were coming in the boat fast from the first cast. Mixed in with the Trout were plenty big Sheepshead and under sized Drum. The cold front came through about mid morning and with it came strong cold winds and clouds, but luckily no rain. As the wind picked up the Trout kept on eating and the guys kept on catching. With 125 Trout on ice we made a move to look for some Reds, but found only 2 and more Trout. When it was all said and done we had 144 Trout (13-20 inches), 27 Sheepshead, 2 Reds, and 6 Channel Mullets. A great day of fishing with a fun group of good fisherman.
From the sound of all the shotgun blasts the duck hunters in the area were very busy this morning, and we saw a lot of ducks flying around. Looks like it was a good opening day. Large groups or small groups we at Fish With The King, can handle them all. Give us a call and find out about the best rates and accommodations on the net!
