Fishing continues to be good to excellent on most trips. Since my last report we've caught quite a few sails, some dolphin, and lots of kingfish. During a recent dolphin tournament we ended up catching a bunch of fish, unfortunately none of the fish caught were our target species.
Just yesterday I had my first trip in quite a while were we didn't get any shots at sailfish. Although the sailfish didn't come through for us, the kingfish made up for them in a big way. We caught four nice kings up to around 20 Lbs. Even though these fish were not in the smoker category they did provide great action for the guys fishing with me on this day. They also managed to wrangle up two or three bonito.
Bonito will become more and more prevalent as the summer progresses. One species that has cooled down a bit has been the dolphing or mahi-mahi. During a recent tournament we only managed a couple of small fish. This can change in a heart beat because these fish are highly migratory and constantly on the move.
Action should remain good for another few weeks before we start to change gears. Hopefully we will have a good dolphin and snapper fishing this summer. If you're still waiting to tangle with your first sail, king, or dolphin give me a call so that we can set up your trip.
Till Next Time,
Capt. Orlando Muniz
