July-August
Tarpon fishing has slowed down on the beaches and has pick up in the back bays. From Boot Leg off Picnic Island to north of the Causeway, plug fishing is hot. Most anglers use the DOA mullet. July's full and new moons brought us some of the best Pompano fishing we've had in 20 years. Fishing the out going tides in the passes and long sand bars along the beach and bay, using a Guido's jig all white works the best. Light line in 8 to 10 lb test with light spinning rods. Throw jig down tide and jig it off the bottom. Don Belveal fishing on Friday's full moon caught 25, 2 to 3 lbs each. August moons should bring the same movement of fish. Summer trout is starting to pick with fish on the deeper flats. Start looking for the reds to start schooling up for the spawn at the end of August. Macks are still around in good numbers. Don't forget to check on web-site for custom flies and hand made buck tail jigs.
