We got going at 16h00 for a short 3hr session to target some game fish in the harbour; it was overcast and threatening to rain and other than a short drizzle we stayed dry. The wind was a moderate NE and the water surface temperature 22.5 deg. C
Today I decided to fish hard plastics only and so we use size 10 Rapala X-Rap Splash Baits. I struggled at first to find fish, and there was a lot of oil on the water in one area, but eventually I found some activity and started to work an area.
My group today was a family with 3 little girls and they were so excited about the trip. Only daddy was fishing and the girls an mommy were spectators. I really love the little ones and these girls were well behaved, and cute. Daddy and I both got a lecture about smoking and daddy was instructed that he has to stop, and then can only smoke on his birthday, it was also agreed that on his birthday he could smoke as much as he wants. I wish I could kick the habit.
Soon the Rapala showed itself and produced us a nice little Yellow Tail King Fish (Jack) which gave a good account for itself on the light tackle and the girls were very excited about this.
As it was getting dark we got another strike on the Rapala and this time the fish took line and after a good fight on light tackle we landed a lovely Sea Pike (Pick Handle Barracuda).
After is got dark, things went quiet and I then went to look for some Springer (Lady fish) action but without success.
