Today it feels like Fall. West - Northwest winds are coming on strong, a cool rain is falling and this may be just what we need to get the river fishing as it should be. One small push of fish about a week ago did not last for very long and catches have been few and far between on the river since then.
The lake is another thing as they are stacked in 30 to 110 FOW from Oswego to the North Dunes. Kings and Coho's are entertaining lake anglers and limit catches have been the norm just about every trip out!
The best spot has been in front of the Salmon River. It is just incredible! Flasher and fly combos are doing the best with plugs & spoons taking fish early.
For Coho's anything red will work. Luhr Jensen Dodgers, Pro-Troll E-chips and a red Spin Dr are all deadly. Run a green glow, hammer, Pro-Am Glow, little bot blue or a Ripka Killer behind them and hang on.
Kings will hit all of those rigs as well but my best player has been a white mountain Dew E-chip flasher and the old stand by hammer fly You just can't beat this rig!
For spoons and plugs I am running some Diamond king glow spoons and old Orca sap suckers, if you can find them. In the sun the old #3 salt & pepper cut plug has been on fire!
Many anglers continue to run cut bait and or whole herring and they are doing well. Seem the fish in the Oswego Harbor are preferring meat over other offerings right now.
The night bite at the mouth has been slow but this weather change will make a huge difference. Look for things to really light up by the time you read this!!
I hear Godfrey point on Oneida Lake is producing some real nice perch. I will probably get some hate mail for letting this out but the bite there is on!!
