King Salmon are showing up in good numbers along the eastern shoreline of Lake Ontario.
The action this week has been steady. Salmon prefer to be in or just above the ice cold water. Local charter captains are finding the salmon from 90 to 120 feet down oven 120 to 200 feet. Start early with White & Green E-chip flies in front of a TG or Green Glow Atomik Fly. When the sun gets high switch to some Spin Dr's in chartreuse and Mountain Dew with Atomik Hammer and Big Fin flies.Nk's in the Die hard and natural born killer pattern are working well on the higher rods.
On Tuesday Don and his son Eric joined me for some brown trout fishing. After 2 hrs of catching weeds and bass we made the move offshore and it was the right move. We took a nice rainbow, a big lake trout and three kings the largest was 18 pounds. I am still waiting for those pictures from the guys as my the location of my camera continues to elude me.
The bass fishing on Sandy pond has been good. Thr top water action has been the best. I am heading out tomorrow to try it first hand. Most fish are being caught in6-20 ft. of water.
The walleye bite on Oneida Lake continues. My last trip down there was very good right until the thunder storms chased us away
Jim Hanson with a typical "Neida" eye.
Walleye seem to be everywhere, in the weeds, on the shoals, suspended with the bait, and on the bottom especially the "pancake" bottom. This is where we did our damage. Jigs and sonars slowly worked across the bottom in 34 FOW was the spot for us.
West End Report From Captain John Oravec; The Troutman
Fishing here is pretty easy offshore, there is a trash line 2-3 miles with all size steels and kings 40 to 80 dn Ne/SE troll 2.2 to 25 spoon dn speed depending on the blade. Most are keeping one diver with an emerald /kelly green opti enticer and a green opti or atommik fly for the majors.
Enjoy the holiday weekend and stay safe.
