Along the shoreline there was some excellent action found, African pompano, golden jacks, dogtooth snapper, pargo Colorado, sierra, jack crevalle and roosterfish were the main species accounted for. On Thursday the bite off of the La Laguna shipwreck was absolutely wide open for the pompano, fish averaged 6 to 10 pounds.

Finally there were some reports of yellowfin tuna on the local fishing grounds, namely the Desteladera area, where over the weekend there were tuna found feeding on this Bank. One commercial panga from La Playita found these fish, they accounted for one yellowfin in the 100-pound range.

With the lack of any consistent offshore action the majority of the local panga fleets have been fishing closer to shore for a mix of medium sized species. Most common were yellow snapper, sierra, pompano, triggerfish, roosterfish, cabrilla and grouper.

Offshore action continued to be dominated by striped marlin, very few reports of dorado or yellowfin tuna. Mid week anglers encountered excellent action for striped marlin around the Gordo Banks, striped marlin could be seen feeding on the surface on balled up schools of mackerel.

The local panga fleets continued to report excellent action on smaller gamefish close to shore and off of the rock piles. Various species of pargo (snapper), jacks, pompano, cabrilla, grouper, triggerfish, amberjack and sierra were the most common catches.

Early in the week there was great action around the Gordo Banks for striped marlin, the fish were found feeding on large concentrations of mackerel and most every charter that targeted the billfish was getting into the action.

With the official start of the spring season set to start this coming week, crowds of spring breakers were greeted with the first significant heat wave of the year, as clear sunny skies reached past the 90 degree mark and it actually felt more like summer than late winter.
