The comercial Herring season is under way and that means the Springers and Halibut are not far behind. A few boats have been out fishing and have caught a few Springers but they are winters only. The big hogs show up in a couple of weeks heading for the Kalum River in Terrace. They are quite easy to catch down by the mouth of the Skeena River using Cut Plug Herring trolled slow at 30 to 60 feet. I like to add a false flasher to the downrigger balls so they can see where the Plug is in the silty water.

Halibut are showing up slowley but surley. They need lots of fresh bait like Row Herring, Salmon Parts, Squid or Occy. I like to add a little bit of Butt Juice to make the presentation mouth watering.

The lingers and Yellow Eye Rockfish are taking Jiggs bounced off the bottom and the sides of pinacles. My favorite jigg is the Nors Jigg 32 oz to get me to the bottom fast. I always sharpen the hooks to allow for a pure hook set.

Crabbing and Prawning is a 12 month fishery and I find if you have the right bait you will always load up. Last years Salmon and Halibut heads work well.

Bio: Prince Rupert fishing charters guide for 25 years. We specialize in catching large and aggressive Salmon and Halibut. Welcome to the Deep Spring Charters home page. My company specializes in catching large and aggressive Salmon and Halibut. These are not our only targets though. I love seeking out Ling cod, Snapper and Rock fish where they live. These fish are not safe when I am on the water. It is not uncommon to have all my fish coolers filled to the top by the end of the day. I call this food gathering.
