SABINE RIVER
The Sabine River is still your best bet in Southwest Louisiana for high numbers of fish. The water level on the Sabine has fallen a good bit in the last week due a lack of water from Toledo and lack of south wind. On outgoing tides anglers are catching 40 to 60 fish a day with spinnerbaits and shallow diving crankbaits catching the most bass. Merritt states that Texas rigged worms are a great choice for times when the tide is not moving. Note: Anglers are also reporting catching big stringers of bass and redfish in the Black Bayou area.
CALCASIEU RIVER
The Calcasieu river is clearing up very nicely but afternoon rains of late are slowing the process. "The West Fork still offers the clearest water on the river but the main river is getting better every week" says Travis Merritt. Topwater baits are producing some nice stringers as well as smaller spinnerbaits in chartreuse and white. The water above Ward 8 is changing on a day to day basis due to the rains and the water level in the river is as low as it has been all year.
