SABINE AND CALCASIEU RIVERS
Calcasieu - Ron Castille, well-known Lake Area angler, reported both rivers are still doing great even with the high muddy water. Spinnerbaits, one-quarter and three-eighths ounce with white/chartreuse skirts, are getting the most action. For best spinnerbait results, target the flats. In addition, one quarter and three eighths ounce jigs in black/blue/purple, worked slowly in the tree tops are getting some of the larger bass to commit.
Sabine - The release of lots of clear water from the dam at Toledo is the main reason the Sabine is not as muddy as the Calcasieu and catching lots of bass in not a problem. However, catching quality bass is somewhat moire challanging. Castille suggest Baby brush hogs in watermelon/red fished around any cut or drop off has been working well. Small white spinner baits fished slowly have been producing good numbers of fish in the back waters. If you can pick your fishing days, choose the day after a front when the wind is out of the north as the cuts will be running. Castille states that the only presentation that is not very productive when water is running out of the cuts is topwater lures.
