Halibut offshore off of Ucluelet has continued to be good as it is most years. The eighteen mile spot and Laparouse are both excellent halibut fishing areas. Guides are using large herring on a spreader bar and are having tremendous success at 150 to 200 feet. Most of the halibut are in the 20 to 30 pound range. The salmon in the area are close to the beach at Beg Island, South Bank, and The Red Can. South Bank produced the largest chinook salmon at 39 pounds on Friday. Meanwhile Barkley Sound continues to have fabulous chinook and coho salmon fishing. The coho are very thick and in some areas it is tough to get the gear down to where the chinook are swimming. Boats over the last few days have been limiting on both species.
Anchovy in Rhys Davis teaser heads, white hootchies and glow white and green hootchies and various green glow coyote spoons are all working very well. We expect this salmon fishing trend in Barkley Sound Vancouver Island B.C. to continue.
