We are well into the month of October and conditions on area rivers and streams could not be much better. Water flows are fair to good. Temperatures are comfortable. Most of the leaves are down and the fish are biting.
I continue to experience one of my best Fall seasons ever and I want to say thank you to all the guests that have joined me since it began on September 13. Although most days now I am targeting trout, do not think for a minute that the salmon run is over.
It is still October and I have guests that want and enjoy catching kings. On Sunday a boat cancelled on a fellow guide as "they heard" the salmon run was over. Well here is my answer to them. Remember you have to keep your options open and be willing to make adjustments.
Trout are available in all area rivers and streams eggs and egg pattern flies in orange, pink, chartreuse and blue are doing the job.
Fish the heads and tails of the pools behind any spawning salmon. Stay back out of the water as most steelhead are caught in less than 4 feet of water this time of year!
The next two months look real promising as our waters will be teaming with a good mix of steelhead, browns and late run Coho's.
Enjoy yourself and stay safe! Troy
