Well we are finally making ice now! This latest cold snap is locking up the area lakes and ice fisherman will soon have big smiles on their faces.
Look for good ice on Sandy pond and other local lakes as we get into the weekend. Please remember to use caution when you are on the ice. I like a good 5 inches under me, then you know you are safe.
On the salmon river steelhead are scattered from top to bottom, but with this cold weather has most of the river is full of slush. You will have to concentrate your efforts in the upper end of the river, The Schoolhouse and the wire pool has been fishing real good with a mix of dark and silver fish. Blue eggs and small pink and chartreuse flies are doing the job there.
The Oswego is still high but very fishable around lock 7 and at the dam. Pink eggs and white jigs are taking browns and steelhead. The salmon is giving up some nice chromers, fish the upper river and try small blue egg sacs and white and blue flies.
Things are kind of quiet right now but look for some good ice fishing in the coming weeks. I will have a complete report of area hotspots next week.
