The Eastern Lake Ontario shoreline brown trout fishing is on fire right now. Boats from Fair haven to Stony Point are catching browns in 5 to 15 feet of water in front of all the tributaries.
Stickbaits and small spoons in black and silver are working the best. Troll slow and concentrate your efforts in and around the warmest colored water. The Oswego Harbor is producing some nice catches of brown trout as well.
The Bull head fishing is just getting underway and conditions will really improve over the next few weeks as the water warms and fish move in. Top spots include North and South Sandy Pond, The Salmon River Estuary, The Grindstone Marsh and the Little Salmon River.
The salmon river flow is staying at 1800 cfs through the weekend. The fishing the past week has been nothing short of incredible.
Worms, plugs, beads and egg sacs are all working. Blue and white have been the best colors for us. Just fish the baits you are most confident in and wait them out. Make sure to fish the seams, edges and heads and tails of the runs.
Here a just a few from the last couple of days.
Meghan with her first steelhead, a Spring run chromer
Eric Markell pounded away at them for two days. Great fishing, good food and beautiful weather!!
Had a unexplained cancellation for today a few weeks ago (Big mistake) but it rebooked and Randy and his son Josh were spoiled on their first ever driftboat trip. We were into double digits by 10 AM I told them not to rebook for next year, they would never see it this good again. They didn't :)
There you have it, more of the same fantastic fishing, we have been seeing since last October. This will continue for another month although weekends will be slower as we have to split the pie with so many other boats.
I have some great days open in late May for walleye and or brown trout.
See you out there
