The winter or feeder Chinook salmon fishing has improved dramatically over the last while. Most of our guests have had opportunity to play fish close to the Ucluelet Harbour or in the quiet waters of Barkley Sound. The last few days has seen the lighthouse produce some nice salmon weighing 10 to 15 pounds. The fish were in 80 to 100 feet of water. Cop car coyote spoons in the 4 inch variety worked well as did the green/blue needlefish. The spoons have been trolled with 5 feet of leader behind a green or red flasher and the needlefish have had 42 inches of leader behind green and red hotspot flashers. The area around Great Bear, Swale Rock, and Mayne Bay has also been productive.
Slivers Charters Salmon Sport Fishing has also be providing a Seafood Safari. Guests have not only been salmon fishng but also fishing prawns, crabs, and picking oysters. Bottom or rock fish and halibut will come into the mix soon. Doug at Slivers Charters has plenty of information on salmon and halibut fishing opportunities off of Ucluelet and into Barkley Sound Vancouver Island. Call Doug at 250 724 2502 for more information.
