Nikao Fishing Adventures went deep sea fishing with 3 clients off Durban today. It was raining, cold and the visibility was poor. The sea was flat and the water crystal clear. We launched at 05h00 and returned at 10h00. Water surface temperature varied between 21-22 deg C.
We started out with some in-shore fishing and got about 30 Shad all in the 20-35cm range, after that we did some light tackle trolling along the backline and we got 2 Yellow Fin King Fish in the 1.5Kg range. I am so glad that the King Fish are back again. We the trolled the light tackle a little deeper and we got 5 Torpedo Scad of which 2 were large specimens.
We went out as deep as 70m but found nothing there, and decided to put out some live bait on the drift with one on the surface and one deeper, whilst we fished on the bottom on light tackle. The live baits provided nothing, but we managed several Slinger of which one was a real fine specimen, and we also got a nice Big Eye Kingfish of around 1Kg. We also got a few Trigger Fish which always provide good sport, some Hog Fish and Parrot Fish.
We caught a first for my boat which was a beautiful fish called a Blue & Gold Fusilier of about 30cm, and it is great to have yet another species added to the list.
All the fish we caught were returned to the ocean.
