Tuesday morning we had sunshine. It looked like a perfect day for fishing. I didn't have a charter, but wished I did. What a great day to be out on the water. Just my luck, somebody else was thinking the same thing. I got a call around 10 a.m. from a local client out of Harlingen. He said he and a friend wanted to sneak away for a quick afternoon of fishing .
I picked them up at the park ramp around 12:45 p.m. and out the Arroyo we went. The wind was picking up out of the east but what the heck , we had sunshine and we were going fishing. My two clients seemed to be enjoying the ride out visiting with each other and taking in the beauty of the variety of birds along the shoreline and a lone coyote that I'm sure was hoping to land his afternoon meal.
The tide was still high so I figured the reds should still be on that favorite grass meadow, and they were. We had sunshine, but it didn't last long. After about an hour, the cloud cover moved in and the wind picked up to about 15-20 out of the east south east. But hey they were catching and having a great afternoon away from work and the cell phones.
In less than 3 hours time they landed several nice reds and a trout. What a great way to relieve stress. We got back to the dock in plenty of time for them to get home by
5 o'clock. I really enjoyed the afternoon fishing them. I hope they'll be able to sneak away more often.
The lures de-jour for the afternoon, Berkley Gulp and gold spoon.
