Well it's happening again, all the talk about hurricanes and the dreaded cone. Even though we haven't been hit, the recent storms have kicked up the seas and stirred up our waters. August is traditionally a slow month in the charter business and a good time to take care of maintenance and repairs of my boat and gear. Hopefully hurricane Gustav and Hannah will be downgraded soon so things can finally get back to normal.
During this August the action has been good to excellent at times. The kingfish bite has remained pretty steady and even strong at times. Sailfish are probably the biggest surprise lately with some boats getting up to three shots in a single day (extremely rare in August). On the shallower reefs yellowtail and mangrove snapper continue to entertain anglers especially at night.
Hopefully the good fishing will continue through the month of September. I have several trips already scheduled and one tournament late in the month. If you're ready to give it a shot give me a call or send me a message so that we can put a trip together. Remember to stay safe during this inclimate weather.
Have a great Labor Day,
Capt. Orlando Muniz
