A lot has happened since my last report so I guess we'll get right down to business. Over the last month or two we've had many memorable trips and exciting moments. Most catches have consisted of sailfish, kings, dolphin (mahi), blackfin tuna, wahoo, and yes bonito. The most exciting trip came a couple of weeks ago with repeat customer Jose and his son Jose Jr. The father and son have been fishing with me on a regular basis over the last year and have enjoyed great success. On this afternoon Jose Jr. was in for a memorable day of fishing. The excitement started while I was deploying the second kite when a 50-60# wahoo inhaled a pilchard being drifted along on a flat line. Jose Jr. was first on the rod and watched helplessly as the fish melted line of the 20# spinning reel. Finally, he was able to turn his head and get him coming back to the boat. I knew it was a nice fish but didn't want to get too excited until I finally saw the tiger stripes. After gaffing the fish and exchanging high fives we took some pictures and put the fish on a 50# scale. As it turned out the fish easily bottomed out the scale.

Later after catching a nice dolphin and bonito we hooked a double on sailfish. Again, Jr. had the hot hand and brought a very large sail to the boat. While fighting the fish his father had checked the junior IGFA record for a sail which was 68 lbs. The fish looked bigger than that so the call was made to boat the fish and put it on a certified scale. Well, the rest is history the fish weighed 72 lbs. and is now pending approval by the IGFA. Congratulations to Jr. on his great catch!
Another great trip that we had was with Ramon and his son. We netted some pilchards after leaving the dock and headed out to the fishing grounds. Seas were flat calm and we had a very light current so I decided to target some of the county wrecks. We started picking away at the mutton snapper and ended the day with about five and a nice bonus cobia. We also caught several bonito and a king. The highlight of the trip came in the afternoon when I decided to anchor up and do some chumming. One of the flat lines got clobbered and it was game on. We fought this fish on 20# spinning for about 40 minutes and after a while it became obvious what we were fighting as the fish started making circles. Finally, we sank the gaff into a beautiful 35 lb. blackfin tuna. The father and son team were ecstatic with the catch.
We also did a few kids trips were we enjoyed great success. On one trip we counted at least 15 different species and the kids had a blast. Mom and dad were just as excited and had to get in on the steady rod bending action. The kids were all smiles from ear to ear. If you have young ones, this is the way to get them hooked on fishing and introduce them to the sport we love.
These are just some examples of the type of action that we have enjoyed as of late. Right now we are changing gears a bit and will be focusing more on the dolphin and snapper fishing for the next couple of months. We can also expect to continue catching some kings and lots of rod bending bonito.
Well, I guess this brings us up to date for now. If you're interested in getting in on some of this action all you have to do is call. You can reach me at 786.266.0171 or visit my website at: www.nomadfishing.com.
