We got down to the Lake Jozini (Pongolapoort Dam) entrance at around 04h55, as this was our last day we wanted to start early as we all had to drive home later. The gate guard was not there and arrived late at around 05h15, which is frustrating. Whilst driving down to the slipway we were treated to some game viewing with Giraffes, Wildebeest, Springbok and Nyala all making an appearance, and near the slipway there was a herd of Black Rhino.
It was a cold day; and still overcast and the water surface temperature was around 23 deg. C. We could not fish at our successful spot from the day before as it was occupied by hippos on the left and right hand side of the point and so I decided to go to another spot further up the river which has produced good fishing in the past with similar features. This area was sheltered from the wind and we just let the boat drift slowly along. Here we found dozens of Tiger Fish all in the 1Kg (2.2lb) – 1.3Kg (2.8lbs) range taking our surface lures in amongst the weeds. We were basically getting a strike for every cast and although we missed a lot of fish we also landed several and had great fun catching them.
At 12h00 we decided to call it a day and packed up to go home.
