They are here Now!

We have seen more kings in the last week than we have all season. We hit them good on a few trips and struggled on some others but the fish are here. From 130 to 350, from Fairhaven north to Sandy Pond, Big adult Chinooks along with their younger counterparts have moved in as their summer staging season begins.

While they end to favor the cold water they are more tah nwiling to move into the 60 degree water if that is where the bait is at.

Top producing baits for us are white & green e-chip & spin dr;s with green glow and white Atomik flies early. If you have bright conditions switch to a chrome green spinny and a hammer fly, or a chrome green e-chip and a green #23 or B-Fly.

Keep a few spoons high for the browns and steelhead. I like the dreamweaver coyote and the NK die-hard.

From Captain Johnny O on the west end of the lake:

Fishing off Oak Orchard /Point Breeze in Orleans County is good again this week .The main catch is king salmon of all year classes with a mix of some "MamBo " steelies . The main raft of fish is hovering around the 25 line that is 150 to 200 Fow anywhere from the 8 line east to 15 line west off Green Harbor .Since the hit zone continues to drop ,riggers from 45 to 90 down and wire divers 140 to 180 /1 settings are the hot rigs .Leadcore is picking an occasional fish at 10/10 passes. Green Opti Enticer Flashers with Atomik, Sigg and Opti Frog Blue Glow Flies working well on divers .Standard spoons in a variety of colors on riggers will get you going .Submitted by Capt John Oravec Tight Lines Charters Captjohnoravec.com .please feel free to contact Capt John For any questions or details at captjohno@netzero.net

Smallmouth Bass continue to provide great action from Lake Ontario and Oneida Lake. White and yellow spinnerbaits as well as shallow diving crankbaits are working well. In deeper waters, try small jigs tipped with yellow or white Mister Twister grubs. Slowly bounce the jigs off rocky bottoms and work the shoals and drop-offs. Crabs and worms are always a good bet.

The fishing on Sandy pond has been good. Anglers are finding largemouth bass and northern pike using live minnows and worms. Look also for an occasional walleye to be mixed in. I alos hear the top-water action has been hot!

On Oneida Lake fishing with jigs has slowed down and now the walleye are showing a preference for trolled baits over the deepest part of the lake 45 to 55 feet. Look for bass in about 6 ft. of water using crayfish and worms and panfish are doing well along the shoreline.

Fishing is real good right now, so if you are looking to book a charter, log on to our website at www.Lakeontariooutdoors.com. There you will find, daily fishing reports, numerous links to great sites and area businesses, as well as info on lake charters and river guides.
