Tough weather, but good fishing Tuesday and today on the Beach. Tommy, Ray, and his dad Tony from North Carolina spent few days in Shell Beach at a friends camp in Proctor's and two days fishing with me. Tuesday morning was about as nasty as it gets. The last of the rain from the big cold front was moving out of the area and leaving high winds, clouds, and cold behind. The NW wind had the water falling so hard most bayous looked like white water rapids. We found plenty of birds working on a lee shore of a lake. Fishing with Campo's shrimp under a cork the guys were putting Trout in the boat. Plenty throw backs but it was action and enough good sized Trout to make it fun, some were really nice sized. We made a few moves and caught fish at each and ended up with a nice box of fish. Total for day one was 50 Trout, 2 Sheepshead, 1 Red, and 1 Drum.
Today the water was super low and still falling. The winds were not bad at all and the sky clear when we headed out. It did not take long for the fan to turn on. We fished the same general area as the day before and got on a good Trout bite at the mouth of a bayou on the bottom with a Carolina rig. The action was fast and the keeper ratio low, but the keeper Trout were very nice. When the Trout bite faded the Sheepshead and Drum moved in and the Okumas were screaming. The guys caught lots of fish and were a lot of fun to fish with. They had a great time and were blown away by the fish they caught in such bad conditions. Total for day two was 52 Trout, 18 Sheepshead, 7 Drum, and 2 Reds. Also had one big Reds and several just under 16" they released.
The fishing in Shell Beach on fire and it will only get hotter in the coming weeks. Give me a call if you want to get in on some fall fishing fun. Call United Charters now for your next fishing adventure 504-439-1680.
