Two fun cold days on the Beach. Friday my brother Stan brought Terry Stupp of CUI Products in Oklahoma down to the Beach to put some of the custom rods that he makes for me to the test. The morning started out very cold. The wind was blowing hard, the tide falling, and the water temp 43-44 degrees. We started out fishing a deep bayou near Hopedale Lagoon. There were some Trout in there, but they were biting so light in the cold. It was hard to tell if you snagged an oyster or caught a frozen Trout. We managed 10 keepers out of that stop. Next we covered a lot of ground and found lots of dirty water and no fish. IT was getting late and the water temps warmed up a little to 47 degrees. We made a drift in a lagoon and fished with Bayou Chubs under a cork. I really did not think that we would have much luck with such cold water, but to my surprise the corks stared going down. We kept on drifting and catching. The Trout were very nice sized also. No throwbacks and one at a solid 3 pounds and one that was just under 4. We called it quits and headed in to warm up with 50 pretty Trout on ice.
Day two, Saturday Jonathan Pugh and Les Lowery joined Stan and Terry. The forecast was for a warmer and sunny day, but that never happened. We started out in the same lagoon we fished that day before and kept picking away at the Trout with Gulps under a cork early and then Bayou Chubs as the day went on. The Trout were nice, but none as big as Friday. We had to work for them. Keep moving and lots of casting. The guys had a great time and put together a good box of 80 Trout and 2 Reds.
