Ucluelet salmon fishing has been good for the past while. Problem at times has been weather, finding where the fish have moved to, and the odd sea lion. Up to the beginning of this week Mara Rock, Great Bear, and Southbank have had some excellent chinook fishing. Sport anglers were limiting out quite quickly on fish in the teens and early twenties at these in close areas. The fish disappeared and by mid week 7 mile was very good. The fish have been hitting anchovy but spoons in either chrome and silver or the coyote green-nickel have been excellent. The fish straight out from Ucluelet up to Portland Point have been good sized with most fish in the 20 pound range. The area at 7 mile straight out from Uclculet down to Cape Beale have been producing lots of fish but most are small in the 8 to 12 pound range. There are some bigger fish further North and most of these will be making their way South as the migration of salmon has begun.

This week the largest halibut caught at Sail Rock was reported at a whopping 107 pounds.

Halibut Fishing at the Big Bank has picked up as has the salmon fishng. On Saturday guide Shawn had three, 20 to 25 pound halibut and 4 chinook between 16 and 25 pounds. Fishng out of Ucluelet will only get better.

Remember when fishing out on the west coast that safety precautions are essential.
