Ucluelet British Columbia is located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island British Columbia. This community is one of the worlds most scenic places and is close to Clayquot Sound and Long Beach. Not only is Ucluelet famous for its beauty and rugged coastline but also its sport fishing. The summer of 2007 should see the salmon/halibut sport fishing be very good. Halibut last year were terriffic and it is forecast that the same holds true this summer. A few halibut have already been picked up off of Southbank. Salmon fishing this year for chinook, coho, and pinks is forecast to be again splendid. The sockeye fishery is not quite determined. 2006 saw 15 million sockeye return to the Fraser with many of those fish passing along the Ucluelet beach.
The first of the migrating salmon should begin in early May. La Parouse Bank, South Bank, and the Wreck will be popular fishing areas again this summer. The La Parouse which is 26 miles offshore has a favorite spot for everyone. The area is often rich in bait and each day brings a new adventure for the sport fisherman.
Most people who come to the area and fish on their own should ask questions to local anglers. Of importance is safety. Boats should be equipped with a GPS, Radar, Radar Reflector, and of course VHF Radio. Those not bringing their own craft will be out with guides who have years of experieince on the open water and whose boats are equipped with all safety equipment. Look forward to some grea fishing in Ucluelet. Call or email Doug at 250 724 2502 or dlindy@shaw.ca for more information
