Finally, after a couple of weeks of uncharacteristically strong winds we are finally fishing again. Due to the inclement weather I had no choice but to postpone a few trips. Even though the westerly breezes are not the most desirable for fishing South Florida, fishing has been pretty good at times.

On Sunday 6/3 we were able to catch one of two sailfish while kite fishing over the reef. We also caught an assortment of bonito, barracuda, and bottom fish.

Monday 6/4 was a good day for those seeking dolphin (mahi-mahi). Several boats had good catches of dolphin with most fish caught under diving or circling birds.

Tuesday 6/5 brought us nice weather but not so nice fishing. After catching a smorgasbord of bait we headed to the reef with high hopes but unfortunately the nice conditions did not extend to the water. Fish seemed to be suffering from lockjaw. We spent about an hour fishing without a single bite. Now it was time to head offshore in search of the dolphin that had been sighted the day before. Unfortunately for us our feathered friends had abandoned the area and we had no luck finding the fish. We ended our day by anchoring up on a shallow wreck where we had some fun catching yellowtail snapper.

During the next several days the winds are expected to swing to a more Easterly direction which should ignite the bite once again. I have a couple more trips scheduled for this week and hope to have another report real soon. If you're interested in catching some of these fish give me a call. I still have quite a few dates available this month.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Orlando Muniz
