Very good day on the Beach. The weather Monday was forecasted to be iffy at best, but a check of the radar and wind conditions it looked like we would have plenty of good fishing time before the weather turned bad. When I got down to the Beach the winds were low, the sky clear, and the tide high. George Smith and his crew John, Brian, and Kevin met me at Campo's where we filled the live well with shrimp. We headed over to the Hopedale Lagoon area and right away got on a good bite. The guys were pulling in some really nice Trout, and the Sheepshead were thick. When the wind picked up the bite slowed down. We made several moves picking up quality fish at all stops. There were birds both gulls and pelicans every where today and hungry Specks under them. They were not feeding on shrimp, they were feeding on tiny potbelly minnows. When you pulled a fish in the boat it would spit up these minnows and still have a mouth full when you took the hook out. Brian had never caught a fish in his life and started off slow, but before long he was on the fish and ended up catching the most variety and best fish of the day. The Trout were mixed in size and ranged from 12-22 inches. We had many Trout in the 17-20 inch class with a dozen or more at 20-22 inches. Total for the day was 105 Trout, 27 Sheepshead, 4 Reds with many rats released, and 4 Flounder. It was a fantastic day of fishing with a fun group of guys.
The fall season is in full swing and the fishing is outstanding. Come on down to Shell Beach and let me show you what you have been missing. For you next fishing adventure call United Charters 504-439-1680.
