Guests from Alberta were given a great thrill while fishing in almost perfect conditions this past Friday and Saturday out at the Big Bank and The Wreck located 14 to 24 miles off of Vancouver Islands West Coast. Guide Graham had two Albertan couples jig for Halibut using salmon Stomachs and octopus. Each day the group picked up 4 halibut ranging from 12 to 15 pounds. Mixed in the catch were three bright silver hatchery coho with the biggest at 14 pounds and eight 9 to 13 pound feeder Chinook. The Chinook were predominately hitting anchovy in glow Rhys Davis Teaser Heads. The Coho liked white hootchies and a 4 inch watermelon coyote spoon. The weather looks to be good early this week. We have a boat out today but with no report yet. Feeder or winter Chinook fishing will be very good as long as there is ample bait in various areas. It is always wise to check weather conditions before going offshore on ones own. for more information on winter fishing or fishing next summer out of Ucluelet call Doug at 250 724 2502 or e mail dlindy@shaw.ca
