Windy, low, and dirty. That is how you would describe the conditions Saturday morning with 25 mph NW winds and low and hard falling tide. My crew for the day Pete Dickerson, Clifton Dickerson, and Brian McCarthy spent the night at Capt. Frank Moore's lodge where I picked them up before going to Campo's for some live shrimp. We headed over to the Lake Robin area. We made a few stops and fished hard for only 9 keeper Trout and plenty of through backs. From here we made our way toward Oak River with a stop in Four Horse. The water looked the same everywhere we went, like mud. In Four Horse we hooked up with one Red that got off at the boat. Now my crew wanted Reds for the most part so I gave up on the Trout hunt. From here we went to Oak River to a favorite Redfish and Drum hole of mine only to find a shrimp boat dragging nets through it. Next stop was Point Fienne where we set up in a semi protected cove and fished with shrimp under a cork. It didn't take long for the corks to start going under and the Okuma's to sing. We sat there and the guys caught their limits of nice Reds ranging from 18-30 inches along with lots of small rat Reds and under sized Drum to keep things busy. My crew fished hard and were rewarded with 15 Reds, 3 Drum, 4 Sheepshead and 9 Trout on a cold windy day.
Once this water settles the fish will turn on again big time. If you want to get in on the great fall fishing we have been enjoying give me call at 504-439-1680.
